This directory (EPAGIRAS) is divided up into 4 more directories meta, egiras, mgiras, and wgiras. meta-This directory contains metadata about the GIRAS files and their convertion to the GIS software ARC/INFO. It also contains some ARC/INFO export coverage files (e00) that one can display the quadrangles over a background map of USA. There are also two text lists of quadnames and filenames (covernames) and the state and EPA Region each quad is found. The metadata describes my naming convention for the A/I export files found in the other directories. Each filename begins with a letter "l" followed by the first two characters of the quadrangle name. The 5 digits in the filename represent the latitude and longitude of the southeast corner of the quad. For example Baltimore quad would be represented as "lba39076" and Denver quad would be represented as "lde39104". The metadata also says that the Palestine Texas quadrangle was not processed due to raw data errors. However, thanks to the Texas Natural Resources Information System the Palestine quadrangle is available in ARC/INFO export format. Files ending with "gz" have been compressed with GNU compress software. egiras-ARC/INFO export compressed files east of the 86 degree longitude. mgiras-ARC/INFO export compressed files between the 86 degree and 110 degree longitude. wgiras-ARC/INFO export compressed files west of the 110 degree longitude.
